Our Story
A Century
in the Making
Founded over 120 years ago by a man who would become Ohio's Governor, Hyde Park Lumber & Design Center has been woven into the fabric of Greater Cincinnati through floods, a world war, and generations of families building the homes they love. This is that story.

A Governor's Dream,
Cincinnati's Cornerstone
Hyde Park Lumber was founded by Myers Y. Cooper - a man whose ambitions stretched far beyond lumber. Cooper would go on to become Ohio's 49th Governor (1929-1931), but his most enduring legacy began right here, on Red Bank Road, with a simple conviction: that American homes deserved craftsmanship that would stand for generations. From day one, excellence was never optional.

A Family That
Built More Than Homes
The Coopers gave back as generously as they built. Governor Cooper's wife, Martha Kinnecy Cooper, founded the Ohioana Library in 1929 - a beloved Ohio institution preserving the state's literary and cultural heritage. Decades later, Ohio's First Lady Fran DeWine visited Ohioana to honor that legacy, staying for over an hour to learn about the Cooper family's enduring mark on the state. A business family, and a civic treasure.

When Cincinnati
Needed Rowboats
The Ohio River Flood of January 1937 was the worst natural disaster in Cincinnati's recorded history - the river crested 79.99 feet, inundating entire neighborhoods and forcing more than 60,000 people from their homes. Hyde Park Lumber answered without hesitation, supplying rowboats to families and emergency workers navigating the city's submerged streets. When Cincinnati was underwater, Hyde Park showed up.

Crates That Helped
Win a War
When America entered World War II, Hyde Park Lumber retooled for the nation. The company built shipping crates for Wright Aeronautical's Cyclone-14 airplane engines - the powerplants of the legendary B-17 Flying Fortress. Sixty crates a day, hauled to Wright Field, then shipped overseas to have the engines installed and sent into combat. A small Cincinnati lumber company, sending its craftsmanship into the skies over Europe.

A Century
Recognized
In 2010, Hyde Park Lumber was inducted into the Cincinnati Business Hall of Fame - a fitting tribute to over a century of service, family ownership, and community dedication. Former Ohio Governor Bob Taft presided over the ceremony, and the company was featured in Construction In Focus magazine as "A Family Business With An Extensive History." Not just a business milestone - a recognition of character built across generations.

Same Address.
Same Standard.
Today, Mills Judy, Mike Judy's son and Myers Cooper's great-great-grandson, leads Hyde Park Lumber & Design Center into its next generation. He carries forward the same family commitment Mike protected: premium millwork, designer cabinetry, fine hardware, and expert design guidance rooted in the standard Myers Cooper established in 1902. The same Red Bank Road address. Over 120 years. One family. One promise.
